if the "needle" gets clogged, or it is brewing slower than normal - you can use a toothpick to clean it out - ours gets grounds stuck in it from time to time.

Ill typically fill the reservoir with straight vinegar then you can run 2 cycles. Then keep refilling the reservoir with water and running till no vinegar smell, then fill and run water one more time.
