Yeah
He turned SW to hit the 101 to Thousand Oaks
Probably ran into fog, dropped down to find the highway for VFR and clipped a mountain
Whole thing probably happened in seconds
Alarms were probably screaming in his ears while he was blind
Big hills and low mountains in that area
Clipped a mountain top and went straight into the ravine at 155 knots
RIP

13 weeks under your belt and you're an aviation expert, hah!
I'm trying to understand the last pare of that video. Pilots actions suddenly seem to be different TO ME.
Radio contact and movements and then suddenly just before the end the chopper is moving what seems to be pretty fast while tower is trying to figger out what he is doing.
Something went wrong obviously. I am tryin to understand that last little part.

I stand by my statement, you've got no clue as to what goes on in the takeoff/landing phase of our operation
Pray tell what you understand about flying a helicopter in the mountains in the fog. Pretty sure you should just be quiet.

777 is wrong. He gives me too much credit.
I wasn't a airport fireman.
I help load sick people into Acadian Ambulance choppers and occasionally take a tour in one while on vacation.
That's it.

I fly that area regularly, terrain rises quickly from a valley, and gets to pretty decent heights. Directly about 5 -10 miles inland off the ocean with pretty decent fog on the west/typicial windward side of some decent sized mountains. AKA the Santa Monica mountains. It holds the fog in tight. Temps in those mountains are in the low 40's so fog is a norm. Vis this morning was garbage 1/4 mile @ my local airport about 50 miles away, fog from San Diego to Ventura. Where he transitioned he went from a city valley and into those hills right towards malibu.

after accumulating about 30,000 hours of flying time, much of which was in mountainous terrain, many times at low level and speeds approaching 850 knots, many other times in airline operations, "pray tell" I think I have the expertise to opine in this thread

I gotta admit, he was being kinda nasty to me but I kinda know how arrogant jet jockies can be. I have a few in the family. I don't let them get under my skin.

Single pilot, not following policy, collision alarms screaming, BIG HILLS all around in front of you and blind in the fog is a recipe for disaster
Of course it is crass to say this but if that is what happened he should have pulled up, slowed down and contacted the new ATC for a revised flight plan. Probably went from VFR to IFR in an instant and didn’t adjust his altitude
I wonder if they were running late, he flew by dodger stadium, then hung out by the la zoo for a while until they cleared him around Burbank airport, then he went west on the 118 and then SW to the 101. When you get away from the Hollywood Hills and get closer to the coast the terrain rises and there is more chance of fog off the pacific sitting on the hills around calabassas

I apologize for that, I've just really heard some stupid, asinine comments from 18-20 year old arf guys that are cocky, not a bad thing, but clueless- bad thing

Dont mind the meat servo.
Q: What's the difference between a fighter pilot and God? A: God doesn't think He's a fighter pilot.
Q: Whats the difference between a jet engine and a pilot? A: At the end of the flight the jet engine stops whining.

Interesting in the YouTube of the ATC chatter, he was SFVR until the second handoff when he said he was VFR
So he probably was SVFR then VFR after Burbank when the air cleared then suddenly IFR between the second and third handoff. He was too low to communicate, probably distracted by the fog and collision alarms and didn’t pull up and slow down In time

Of course it is crass to say this
Interesting to me even if a bit morbid. I see how it could happen though.
