Just talked to a friend of mine in the magazine and book distribution business. No Saturday work for special edition magazines.
Since he has been in the business (1996). Princess Di, 9/11, Dale Earnhardt, Paul Newman, Obama's election, Michael Jackson, and Liz Taylor all required Saturday work to put out special edition magazines.
Kobe didn't make the Saturday cut.
I remember when Elvis died it was announced in the afternoon. The newspapers called everyone in and put out special editions that evening. Special editions sold out in minutes.
