These are some major red flags. I mean this with all kindness - make 100% sure that this is for your son. You had your youth. Let him have his and make his choices in things like this. Waaaayyy too many fathers try to live vicariously through their children's sports.

Is Patrick Dempsey good at soccer?

If you can find a futsal league or an indoor league, that would be another option if he has to leave the good coaching to play select. Tighter spaces, less emphasis on athleticism, and can put him on a different technical level.

He just wants to play ball with me. Usually it's in the street in front of our house, but when we have time we take the golf cart to the practice fields and I let him take shots on me. In academy practices they rarely even use goals and the focus is definitely not on taking crazy shots. I take him out and let him shoot, or cross, on set plays from all over. I don't make him run drills or anything, just have fun kicking the crap out of it. I'll roll it back and tell him higher, or more bend, or more power, but it's just to get him to be more creative with finishes. I usually have football on the tee, so when I'm off shagging soccer balls he'll step it off and have one with the football.

Well, nothing wrong with kicking it around with him as long as that's what he wants. Can be great bonding like having a pitch and catch between dad and son.
Just gotta be careful to not let it become what you want. He'll gravitate to kicking with his friends eventually and some dad's just have a hard time letting go and have a hard time just kicking it and not nitpicking everything he's doing.
