I'm 4 real. Family name was Scimeca - changed from Smeke which was a verified surname of Jewish families in Spain at the time of the Inquisition. A large number of Jews fled Spain, landed in Sicily and converted. Not necessarily all in that order.

Had a similar story shared with me by my paternal grandmother some 15 years ago. Seems I have an uncle who searches ancestry and learned that our family is Jewish on my father's side...resided in Germany and immigrated to the States in the late 1800s. Have never seen his work but would like to review one of these days.
