They said I just need to take the lien release to the DMV to get the title.
What do one of these lien releases look like? I might see about making one and bringing it to the DMV.

Tell them you'll give them power of atty to get title. They have a form.
I'm surprised he didn't already sign it. He might have.

I pretty much feel like I should be able to tell them to frick off. You told me it wouldn't be a problem, you take your arse to the DMV with the lien letter and bill of sale and request a lost title
That's what you do.

usually they charge a few dollars more in the deal to go about getting the title.

I got a really good price on it, my trade, and a great interest rate. Essentially got everything I wanted out of the deal.
Seems like they treated you right. Do them a solid and produce the paperwork for them.

As long as he got the "no issue" in writing it isn't a problem. No way a car salesman/financer lies.
He signed his paperwork. The deal is done when he walks out the door with the keys. Any work left to do is on the dealership.

Did you give the dealership POA?
I don't remember off hand. I need to check my paperwork.

Read the thread. I have a notorized lien release letter from the bank saying the car is paid in full.

This is exactly right. Some places will charge you and if they are planning on charging you they will notify you of said charge.
They just don't want to go down to the DMV to take care of it bc they know it's a bitch of a process

They said that in Louisiana, the title has to come from the DMV,
Every single time I pay off a car the title arrives in the mail - usually 3 to 5 weeks after I pay the thing off, but more recently it has been quicker.
They paid you for your trade. Implicit is your cooperation in transferring clean title, unless you expressly sold the car without warranty of title - not to kill the suspense or anything, but you didn't do that.
You said they treated you well, made you a good deal and the whole smash - I'm wondering what is making you such a prick on this single, trifling detail of this deal...

The last 2 cars I bought, I never received a title from the bank. I was told to get the title from the DMV.
If they had told me originally that I would need to title first, I would have said OK. They said it was no problem. Now I have to take hours out of my day to go to the DMV.
That is my issue with it.

Think you can stop by any of the many title shops and they can easily handle it for you.

I couldn't find the title when I traded in a car. Just paid the dealer $30 for lost title and bounced with my new car. They mad cause you didn't pay them to get it and they want you to do it. Still haven't come across the title.

That is not the point. I don't want to take the time out of my day when the dealer said they would handle it.

Where's the title?
I buy a car, I want the title.

This. they told it's a no issue to get you to sign the dotted line and get you out of there. Now they are trying to bait you into doing the shitty work.
And for everyone on the OT all of a sudden getting a soft spot with " they treated you right so do them the favor", I guarantee the deal isn't as good as they made you believe it was. It's their job to sell you on that. No one walks out of a dealership saying "damn I just got snowed".
