It's been six months since the scandal broke, this company really needs to start compensating the consumers it lied to. The average value of its TDI models has depreciated over 20% during that time. Prolonging this whole thing is only building up more bad press and consumer ill-will. LINK

“It’s an ongoing harm that has to be addressed,” Breyer said. “I’ve found the process is a function of how much time people have available to fill. The story about lawyers is that if you give them a year to do something, it will take them a year to do something. If you give them 30 days to do something, they’ll do something in 30 days.” A spokesperson for VW tells the AP that the company is working “as quickly as possible” to find a solution.

I really hope they don't try to push retrofit hardware onto the 2009-2014 tdis.

Not gonna happen, but VW would kiss their US consumer base goodbye in that case.

Something that drastic wouldn't happen, at least not without some form of trade-in offer to avoid a large lawsuit.

But either way, I loved my 2013 Jetta and would buy from them again in the future(I guess depending on how they settle this issue).

They're getting sued either way. By everyone bitching about high fuel mileage and "decreased value", or if they gut the fuel mileage. 6 - half dozen

Eta: That is on top of the government fines and costs to fix everything

I wouldn't buy again just as a trust in a company that has 25k of mone year issue. I'm hoping they do a buyback at 10% on top of blue book value, which is a rumor I've heard. I have no faith in a reprogramming or retrofit hardware fix.

The program and hardware are already in your car. They just have to apply the clean program to all of the time

Maybe for the 2015s. 2014s and earlier models do not have the urea emission control system.

I thought Lod Cook was fronting the company that had fixed the issue with no loss of mpg.

Then they aren't required to, and don't have to meet emissions standards for years after they are built

Good. We're holding onto aTDI that's worth about $4500 less now thanks to this ongoing debacle. And while we don't need to sell it, I'd like the ability to have someone interested in buying this thing if we wanted to sell.

Same here. Plus, I live in California, and there is a real fear that CARB is going to ban TDI's from public roads, so there is virtually no chance that I can sell this thing for anywhere close to blue book value (even after the drastic depreciation.)
