Did MLK even have any "ties" to New Orleans? Did he ever "step foot in this city"?

That was part of the ostensible rationale given for the removal of R.E. Lee's statute.

Yes, not that it should matter at all, but MLK helped start the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) in New Orleans.
