Let me rephrase, you are a condescending asshat. Do you look into the mirror every morning for daily affirmations?

Interesting that that news coverage only mentions a few people dying. When was that from? Did they know there were hundreds dead yet?

They only refer to the victims of the airport ambush, not the poisoning victims back at Jonestown in the jungle.

Either CBS hadn’t confirmed any reports of others dead from independent sources so they didn’t mention them, or perhaps Feds knew but asked for it not to be revealed yet for whatever reason.

Perhaps nobody knew at all at that point because communication was severely limited by technology and remote location and they didn’t want to walk into a second ambush unprepared so they hadn’t pursued yet.

For a $75 supplement they should have a pickup truck drive on the runway and fire AK-47 blanks as you board the plane

The mass suicide via drinking the koolaid happened later in the day. Probably hadn’t received any reports yet because that was happening deep in the jungle.

Im not going to live long enough to go to all the cool places I want to go to as ot is.

Why would I waste time going to that shithole country and to see a death camp?

I was young and living in Germany at the time.

We only had AFN to watch on TV from 9am to 10pm. 1 channel. News coverage was much more sparse in those days.

I just remember hearing all the flies buzzing and people holding cloth over the noses trying to sort it out. Must’ve been horrible for the people doing the clean up.

My dad was a HAM radio operator and when I was a kid I used to sit in with him and listen to him talk with people all over the world.

About two weeks before this happened he connected with someone at Jonestown and talked with them for a good bit.

They were full on in praising the place and what a paradise it was and how my dad should think about bringing himself and his family down for a visit. I remember it just being sort of creepy and unsettling, even as a 9 year old. Dad just humored him and wrapped up the conversation. Then came the news a couple of weeks later.

In the HAM radio culture after you talk with someone you exchange addresses and send something called a QSL card to acknowledge your contact across the globe with each other. When the story of the mass suicide broke, I remember Dad making a joke that he guessed he'd not be receiving a QSL card from that particular conversation.
