Good point. But does that make you less a Soldier because you fast tracked? I would imagine that your First Line Supervisor or Platoon Sergeant seen your potential and did the right thing (BTW, good job). One of the main reasons it takes the Navy longer is the test they take in comparison to the Army Selection Boards. The Navy really has a more fair and competitive way of advancing as sad as that may sound. What is your MOS?
I was a medic, 91W at the time. Been out 10 years.
I'm not saying I was better or worse at my job than anyone that took longer to be promoted in another service. Just saying that every branch has their pros and cons.
I work with Navy folks so I see first hand how good sailors go year after year without promoting.

I am in the Air Force and I have only been stationed at Joint Bases with the Army and the housing is much better on the Air Force side.
It is true and I live right outside one of the biggest joint bases in the country. When I was stationed in HI the Army had even better housing than the AF (might have changed by now). Housing in Germany was the same, so AZ. Korea was shite but I was in area 1.
Here is modern Army housing. It's just as nice as the AF.
You can still find some shitty old housing but that's true in the AF as well. I worked om Maxwell AFB a few years back and the enlisted housing was ghetto as hell.

I see folks in the Navy (good sailors) that have been in close to 8 years and are just making E-5. In the Army I was an E-5 at 2 3/4 years of service (came in a E-3).
Pffft. In 8 years I made E-3 twice, E-4 twice, and E-5 once. It's not hard to make rank unless you're retarded.

Get BAH. A young officer has no business living on base when he can live off base and bring in tax-free BAH. I lived in a cheap place as a young Marine officer and pocketed the rest every month.

My son wants to be an Officer and he asked me what I think he should do and my first response was Air Force and I didn't even stutter. Of all branches of Services, AF is the way to go hands down. I understand the traditions of all four services but when it comes to overall treatment, facilities, equipment, dining, housing, and you name it: AF out shines them all.

I would tell my son AF as well. I'm just trying to dispel the perception that the Army still lives in Quonset huts or open bay barracks. Privatization has changed everything and the perception of the Army hasn't caught up with reality.

Riggins was badass in that movie.

Over all way of life is better in the AF than all branches. Good people too, enjoyed working with them.

With the way the liberals are destroying the military, I wouldn't let my son join either one.
FYI, I was in the US Army infantry.

Darth,
I'm an FA officer in the Army and wanted to downvote your first two posts.
Can't recommend the Army. It's changed a lot in my 19 years and not for the better in my opinion.

I couldn't recommend it over the AF. I don't know what living on a ship is like so I don't know about the Navy. I hear they treat their people better though. In the Army you can expect to be treated like shite.
Iraq wrecked the Army. Drugs and crime everywhere after they opened the floodgates on who could join.

Neither. Would prefer my son not be a welfare queen pawn for our bullshite proxy wars.

If he goes Naval Academy he'll have a choice of Navy or Marines. If he goes West Point or Air Force then that is what he has to do. Everyone in my family were Marines like myself and if one of my kids asked I would say Marines. Which ever school he picks he is in a win-win situation. He gets a free Ivy League education and he gets to serve his country.

And I was a Marine on one that didn't really have to do any work. Those guys work their asses for long shifts and hardly any days off. Granted, it was worth it when you hit ports like Sydney, Singapore etc.

Crime was pretty bad in the mid to late 90's. Yeah, it's gotten bad though. Even here at JBLM.
I came in post Gulf War. We've gone from hard partying after long field problems to having COO/EO/SHARP/Mandatory briefings & any crap pounded into our brains until we're blue in the face. I honestly think Big Army and the politicians are trying to make us into some bullshite warrior/monk force.
The days of stripping naked in the field, putting a five gallon water can on top of the HMMWV and taking a field expedient shower, are LONG gone.
