My husband had a 2008 wrangler with a soft top before he traded it in for a 2013 unlimited Rubicon and it was def noisier.

Somebody school me on the different kinds of Wranglers...I see Sahara, Rubicon, Sport, Unlimited, Unlimited Sport, X...cripes.

I have the 4dr hardtop and will say that the road noise is a little greater, but of course they make some aftermarket insulation stuff that is easy to install if it bothers you that much.
The heat can be a little more on really hot days, but the AC is more than sufficient.
Roomy enough. Wouldn't compare it to the room in an escalade, but something like the old explorers would compare.
It isn't one of the new crossovers, it is an SUV and handles and acts different than a sedan with a minivan body.

I would think the softtop would be way noisier because of the flapping, at least on the interstate.

They did change the soft top design, so maybe thats it.

Yeah they apparently only order automatics. I had to custom order mine through brian Harris.

They are all the same, essentially. Unlimited is a four door.
X and sport are the same, the base package
Sahara is a convenience/appearance package
Rubicon is an "offroad" package
any of the other are special editions based on either the rubicon or the sahara

He actually wanted a soft top manual Rubicon but couldn't find it. So he settled for the hardtop.
Took him looking for a few weeks to finally find a manual one.

Would agree, the new engine has a lot more power. If you live in mountains or are the type that likes to zip through traffic then get the newer engine.

It's the year they switched to the Pentastar engine.

2012 they came out with the Pentastar engine. Much more hp and better gas mileage.
I never drove my husband's 2008 so can't compare myself but he said he could tell a huge difference between his old one and the newer Pentastar one.

new engine design. it is much better.
I have a 6.4 hemi in mine, and the new penstar(engine) and tranny does damn well in comparison

Sahara and Rubicon are virtually the same package. Rubicon has tires that are an inch larger, e-lockers and e-disconnect, and lower gearing for the transfer case.
If you don't know what those are then it is likely you will never use them.

I think if I buy it would be next spring, so that would get me a decent used one after 2012.
