Jambalaya or Jumbalaya?

Holy shite my gf just sent me a text and said she was making a Jumbalaya. Of course I replied back you spelled it wrong. The light bulb came on then I have always said Jumbalaya. I am taking this to the OT not the food because I have never posted on there. What you got? No pics of gf and fwiw she is born and raised in Florida.

Jambon is the french word for ham, as was previously mentioned. It's pronounced "zhaumbau" basically (without phonetic symbols available) so it's not a real stretch to see how the pronunciation became a short "u" sound over the years; and if you'll notice, the second syllable in jambon became a short "u" sound in jambalaya as they are virtually the same phonetic sound.
Edit: Although I'd be more critical of the quality of the jambalaya than her spelling of it.
