He’s a talented writer, no doubt, and while he is talking about the football experience it’s an extremely entertaining read. Once he starts struggling in his post football life the book definitely losses steam. He comes off as way too whiney for my taste. Like football’s version of Ross from Friends. You’ve been banging Rachael, why the hell are you acting so pathetic

That was a lot of whining from someone who had multiple doors opened for him simply because he could long snap a football "through a brick wall".

This was pretty much my opinion.

I always get a kick from those that don’t read, who question why we say “chance of rain,,,Never!” Before home ball games.

The phrase “It never rains in Tiger Stadium on a Saturday night “ was around a long time before this book came out.

I thought it was a whiny, self indulgent piece of shite.

Yep. Aware of that. There were some freakish clearings or even non-weather over the years. Probably what gave Ed the idea. Better than some generic ‘rise above’ or ‘forget about the stress’ cliche names he could have used.

Reading about Charlie McClendon on his death-bed was hard. As the years pass, I gain ever more respect for Coach Mac. and he was done dirty by this, as ever, shortsighted fanbase in 1979.

Requiescat in Pace, Coach McClendon.

Great book. I haven't read it in a few years. I might read it again.

Just as with Les Miles, McClendon was done wrong by LSU Athletics Dept staff stringing him along way too long rather than doing the inevitable sooner. It wasn't the fanbase that did him wrong.

I dunno, the guy has a lot of angst for having lived a life any of us could only dream of.

I agree. Much darker than I had anticipated.

This

A big steaming pile of shite. This beta titled his book only to sell more copies, and then put bad light on the program.

I thought it was a bad book, and if it wasn’t LSU related, I doubt anyone here would think it was very good

I didn’t like it. Or probably more accurately it was not what I was expecting and not in a good way at all.

Yup, that book was terrible. Even as an LSU fan I got bored with it.

John Ed Bradley is a good writer/author. He is also a very interesting guy.
The YouTube video he narrates about the team Entering Tiger Stadium is absolutely awesome.

I guess I had an inside view before I read the book. We're originally from Opelousas (we've since gotten out of that shithole ) and my dad was the QB at OHS while John Ed was there. He was a good friend of the family back then. My dad said in those years after John Ed's career at LSU ended, he was in a DARK place. Said he basically turned into a hermit and I think just lived at his mom's house. My dad would go visit him just to check on him, but he was way bad off.

I really enjoyed the book but, maybe that's partially because I knew exactly what was coming. It was pretty cool reading about the town I grew up in too. John Ed actually brought us all signed copies when the book came out.
