Why do people say this. I feel like this an old phrase from the late 1990's.

I'm looking at F150's today. Earlier today I read an article from car and driver that stated the ecoboost was not getting as good miles per gallon as advertised. I read in the Ford message board the same thing. So I ask the Ford sales man "what do these vehicles really get for mpg in the city." And he said the window sticker is 100% spot on for those numbers. I said well I read something different on the internet. He then says the classic, "well if it is on the internet then it is true." I said the internet said 2+2= 4 so I guess that is wrong too. He just had a blank stare.

People lie on the internet a lot, so when people say this they are being sarcastic. See what they really mean is that it's not necessarily true.

The reason why people in general say it is because the internet gave any Joe Schmo a platform to present whatever they wanted. Rumors and misinformation gets repeated and becomes accepted.

The reason why the salesman said it is because he wants to make you feel stupid so that you'll buy the truck. Both of these should be fairly obvious to you.

My buddy has one and the big V8 gets better mileage. The greenies are just trying to push that crap. They must have tested it all downhill without pushing the accelerator

I have an F150 with the V8 and I get over 18+ miles per gallon. I had to take a picture of it because a coworker with the V6 didn't believe me.
