The Roman Catholic Church was NOT the first Christian church. I believe it was in Armenia or Turkey and would be more similar to Eastern Orthodox churches today. The idea that Peter directly started the church as the first pope is pure crap
But without the Power that came from the Catholic Church allying with powerful heads of state. (Rome, France, Germany, Spain, etc.) it probably falls to Islam or some other militant religion.
You have to be able to put boots on the ground to defend your faith, and without an army backing you, that doesn't happen.

I would say Christianity was going pretty strong in the moments just after Christ was crucified. You might want to read Paul's work.
It was growing no doubt. But without a power structure behind it I don't think it grows as big as it does.
I'm arguing from an historical stance, not one of Faith.

Not sure about the rest of you, but I don't think I'd just kneel there and let some dude cut my head off with a pocket knife.
I'm sure he was bound maybe even drugged, but still.

Well, that's not what was said.

Catholics started Christianity with the Emperor Constantine. 325 years after Jesus died.
Yes. That's when it actually got some force and power behind it and really started to grow.
That's what was said, and agreed with. And that's poppycock.

What's poppycock? That the real power of Christianity came with it being coupled with the Roman Empire?

Yeah that makes no sense. So people witnessed Jesus being crucified and his disciples witnessed him returning. And no one got together in their own churches because of it for 325 years???

The church existed from the time of Christ.
Constantine's conversion is what really got the ball rolling in terms of numbers though.
That's all I'm stating.

I don't consider Catholics Christians. They identify as Catholic foremost.
I don't consider you Christian either. More of a heretic.

I'm sure it was losing the eternal "my god can beat up your god" argument, and didn't gain more traction until the bullshite about virginal conception, etc. was later added.

Plenty. Was a missionary from 13-18. Had stones thrown at us and them shooting guns at us. We sent to some of the dirtiest ghettos handing pamphlets and preachingthe cross. My father was a minister and I planned to be a missionary. I understand the risks you take. Id get beat up I in school for being a christian . I took those beatdowns for years.
I still dream of going over seas and preaching the gospel. I knew the risks of death and torture were possible but I still feel that a my calling.
So no, the risks are minimized because I be been prepared to do for Christ for about 20 years now.

As emperor, Constantine enacted many administrative, financial, social, and military reforms to strengthen the empire. The government was restructured and civil and military authority separated. A new gold coin, the solidus, was introduced to combat inflation. It would become the standard for Byzantine and European currencies for more than a thousand years. The first Roman emperor to claim conversion to Christianity,[notes 4] Constantine played an influential role in the proclamation of the Edict of Milan, which decreed tolerance for Christianity in the empire. He called the First Council of Nicaea in 325, at which the Nicene Creed was professed by Christians. In military matters, the Roman army was reorganised to consist of mobile field units and garrison soldiers capable of countering internal threats and barbarian invasions. Constantine pursued successful campaigns against the tribes on the Roman frontiers—the Franks, the Alamanni, the Goths, and the Sarmatians—even resettling territories abandoned by his predecessors during the turmoil of the previous century.
