Is walking into oncoming traffic a common form of suicide?

Periodically I'll read in the local papers about some woman getting killed while "walking across the street" at some odd hour like 3 AM or 5 AM and in these instances it's usually a major highway.
Sounds like suicide but an awfully strange form of it.

Could be an accident but there really isn't much traffic at that time

A woman is dead this morning after officers say she was hit by a car while trying to cross SPID near Rodd Field Road on foot.
The accident happened just after 5 a.m. on the eastbound side of SPID.

Mostly idiots being stupid and misjudging the speed and distance of oncoming car. And then for the driver they may not see them until it's too late. In Houston it's not uncommon for someone to get clipped trying to sprint across I-10 at odd hours.

Intoxicants make humans like moths on a summer night except replace the bug zapper with an automobile.

A few years ago, I was driving on I-10 eastbound in the downtown Houston area late at night. I had a legit close call with someone who was walking across the interstate.

maybe a good way to off yourself and have family collect insurance?

There might be a car passing every few minutes at some of these places I'm referring to
I can't imagine a sober non suicidal person managing to get killed in such a fashion

Not everyone understands physics...... I agree that a few of these may be suicides, just as some police shootings are suicide by cop. Sad in both circumstances the cop or the driver are left with the guilt.

It's a good way to "get paid" or "hit a lick" if you survive.
