I used to feel a tad guilty hitting no tip on those little screens and hope nobody saw.

I now pound it immediately and give no fricks.

It’s related to the increased costs of the product. I took my wife and one of my kids to a Greek takeout restaurant and we got 3 salads and only 3 waters and the total was over $46.00 before the tip.

I still tipped because I have a good income that is not impacted by inflation like many others. But I could see how someone else would not tip.

Especially Uber Eats drivers.

I'm retired and I drive Uber Eats. I used to be able to work10-12 hours a week on weekend nights and make anywhere from $200-350 a week. Until last April/May. Since then it's not worth my time. I've gone out a handful of nights this summer and decline 90% of the orders offered to me because of low pay for the time/distance of the deliveries. And there are not as many deliveries offered to me. In general people have stopped tipping as much and some don't tip at all. I'm not going to spend 20 minutes picking up and delivering an order that goes five miles for $3.

But that's fine, I don't need to do Uber Eats, but the extra money was nice for only working 10 or 12 hours a week.

Young female waitresses and bartenders at certain places will make a substantial amount off of tips. Then go and spend it on rent in one of these high end apartments in the city.

Then there are the regular servers who barely get any customers and can't be taking home much at all. Places are usually empty damn near and they are picking up 2 or 3 dollars here and there. It is a broken system all around.

I read on here a good rule about meal tipping. If I'm standing up to order, I'm not leaving a tip. I'm a very generous tipper in a restaurant situation though.

If you can't afford to tip your server or bartender, keep your broke arse home.

Horribly slow, but at least it is the same for everyone.
This is, IMO, a load of bull.

In the numerous foreign countries I have been to, service has always been good.

This idea that service will immediately suck if we do away with tipping and pay them a normal salary is not reality.

We should all support working people by leaving a tip.

usually the staff at bars/restaurants in foreign countries are paid decently and that position is more like a traditional job, with exceptions, tipping can be insulting to them

I tip when appropriate to tip, not simply when asked if I would like to.

Youre absolutely correct. I'm in Europe now and we usually go once a year. We are heading to Zurich then Lucerne tomorrow. The service is always on par with the US, and they don't expect a tip.

Some things in Europe you could legitimately complain about, but restaurant/bar service doesn't apply.

went to a high end restaurant in the Bordeaux region of France last month with a friend, we were in a fairly big party and I preemptively tried to make sure that I got the check, our hostess had already conspired to this and beat me to the punch, I asked if I could leave a tip, she said we don’t tip here but you can leave a few Euros because of the special attention, I started pulling out cash and she stopped me and said 10 Euro is enough (bill was probably close to 7-8 hundred,) she said they are compensated well and appreciate it in that case but if you go overboard they take offense to it

The whole food delivery business model is a complete joke that more people are becoming aware of. None of the people doing the actual work make any money. Uber charges the restaurant and steals the delivery fee from the driver. The app is the only money making entity.

I drove for a couple weeks and quit. The extra spending money wasn’t worth the hassle of sitting around declining deliveries waiting on something that made financial sense to do.

I used to top my barber $5, but when his prices went up $5 this year, he no longer gets a tip. $30 for a haircut that takes less than 30 minutes is plenty.

Yep anytime I use it they ask tip for store then driver but at a standup place I wouldn't tip
