On a related note I did almost the same move for a bird caught in my gutter. Just pulled the base piece off and banged the downspout against the side of the house a couple times and out popped a bird who promptly flew away.
Middle of summer and I could hear it struggling and no way I could let something cook inside a metal oven like that.

I did the same for a baby duck.

I found a birdie in the snow
It’s wing was broke, it could not go
I took it in and fed it bread
Then I smashed his fricking head
Old grade school poem.

Holy shite I almost sent that to my MIL.
Back story. After Ida, she was at my house and I found a new born (still pink) squirrel. She took it home and nursed it back to health. Has it as a pet to this day. Joined facebook groups about raising squirrels. Has purchased countless additions onto the cage. The thing lives in a damn condominium now. Having bought all of that, she allows the thing to run around the house most of the time.
After watching the beginning, I figured she would enjoy the video. The ending….well she may have a heart attack. Or hate me if she lived.
Anyway, glad I watched through to the end.

Made me think of an Army cadence we marched to.
A yellow bird with a yellow bill, was perched upon my window sill, I lured it in with a piece of bread and then I smashed it's fricking head!!
