How do you know life on that planet would need water? Our perception of that may be biased since life developed on this planet around water.

Well, we know basic chemistry and things that are essential to basic life. H2O however is plausible that it's not necessary, and instead methane could theoretically be its substitute for an organism. Granted, Carbon is most certainly required for biology, as it can form more combinations than every other element combined.

1400 years is an eyeblink, this is unlikely to matter.

Not to living creatures as far as we can comprehend. They could have nuked each other into an oblivion by now.

She is fairly disgusted about Kepler-452b since she considers it to be fluff that is taking attention away from Pluto which is giving some genuinely interesting and new results.

They have already found more than 1,000 planets and several of them have decent potential for life, so Kepler-452b is nothing new
it's the 4th most Earth like planet, and its discovery was just announced.

This planet has nothing similar to Jupiter close to its orbit (Jupiter acts like a giant vacuum for Earth). That alone is a big reason to suspect that intelligent life does not exist there.

Its temperature is hotter than the Earth from my understanding.

I remember watching a show about this where they said without Jupiter, no life on earth would have ever been possible for the very reason you bring up.

On another show I watched they demonstrated why water is so important. Basically it boils down to the fact water is a great solvent unlike other liquids including methane.

If theres water yes, if not then no. It's older and has had more time to develop.

from the article
"The proportion of planets capable of supporting life may be much higher than scientists previously thought,"

basic "junk" science statement, "may be much higher" is as good as saying it also may NOT be much higher too..

As for your "depends on water"..
Hydrogen is by far the most common element in the universe, Oxygen is something like 3rd or 4th.. what do you need for water?

Water is not really this "rarity" people seem to imagine that it is.
