Yea, I've heard that the river and the bluffs cause tornados to steer around most of Shelby County. Not sure if that is true or not, but it seems that way.
I do remember one that touched down in G-Town and killed a few people in the early 90's.

When I moved to Memphis many years ago I lived at hunters trace apts right off Kirby on second floor.
That's my old stomping grounds. I bet you went to the Bottom Line / TJ Mulligans quite a bit?

Memphis does have the FedEx super hub which accounts for tens of thousands of jobs, St. Jude Children's Hospital, Mud Island, and Graceland...which is a kind of thing unique only to Memphis. I can't really think of any other entertainer that has as much real estate dedicated to their memory.
Both cities have famous entertainment spots and both have historic recording studios. Nashville has a ton of celebrity owned homes and the Opryland Hotel.

It was Dan McGuiness I think when I was there. Think it is TJ's now. And yes I did. These days if I'm getting out it is usually a brewery or somewhere with a patio in the spring/fall. Carolina watershed is my new favorite patio place

Sun records is more famous than any recording studio in Nashville.
Cash, Elvis, Jerry Lee, Carl Perkins, Roy Orbison, Charlie Rich and others.

Dan McGuiness was on Spotswood.
TJ Mulligans was on Kirby. Same guy owns both though.
Carolina Watershed is cool as frick and kind of proves the point. Even in what might be perceived to be a sketchy area of Memphis, there are cool places if you just get out and poke around.
Most of these threads devolve because people repeat "what they've heard" or judge a city from driving through on the interstate.
