Is one 10" subwoofer enough?

To boost my sound system? Been a musician for 20 years and would like to forget about the Trafic and bullshite on my long commute home. I don't like all the boom boom stuff, but would certainly like to enrich my music experience from stock. I listen to mostly rock/blues/classic/alternative/metal.
Secondly, do I need to change the actual radio? I have a 1000W amp (way to much), I would like to just keep the factory. Pretty sure there is an input as it's a new f150. I'll probably put tweeters on the pillars and I guess I need something like a crossover?
I've been researching for an hour or so. The reason for the 10" is because 12" won't fit under my rear truck seats. Is one 10" enough? Or should I do 2? What about two 8"?
Everyone go ahead and laugh at me.
**update**
added a kicker 10" that is made to fit in my truck (with ported enclosure), replaced all the door speakers (4) with higher end kenwood 6x8". I then tapped one of the rear speakers with a module that turns the signal into a useable RCA input. This module also has a knob that adjust the level of the sub (I put this knob by my right knee). I hooked up my 1100w amp, turned the gain halfway down and wow.
It's basically to much. I have to keep the sub pretty low, and the bass somewhere in the middle on the stock head unit. My door speakers sound really really clean, and the 10" hits way harder then I thought it would.
Overall, my sound system is light years better. Total coast was les then $500 (nephew gave me his amp). The door speakers can handle 200w of power, so eventually I will put another 4 channel amp to power those (the amp for my sub is a 2 channel). Sounds very good. At higher volumes, the bass definitely drowns out the 4 kenwoods, I have to turn the sub way down. I think more power to the door speakers would solve that.
I have no idea why anyone would want more then one 10" subwoofer. That thing gives me a full body massage with rock music. And, it's an entry level kicker, not even the good one (supposedly, but it sounds really good and clean, but only handles 300w rms 600 peak).
Anyway, it was fun.

No. You need at least four of them to get that phat bass bumping.

Eventually I'll get a serious response. I'll wait....

I have a 10" stock in my F150 and it's plenty for me.

One 10" will be more than adequate in an F-150, even if it's an extended/crew cab or whatever, given your musical tastes. Heck, even with bass-heavy music, it'd do fine. Just make sure it's a decent brand. Also, if you've got an amp, it might have frequency/crossover control built in.

I have 6 12s in the trunk of my 77 cutlass

FWIW, I think a single 10" sub would be plenty for what you listen to.

Memphis or Crossfire.

So you have the stock radio with a 10" with no amp and it sounds ok?

If a single 10 inch sub can handle people's home theaters, it can handle an F150

That's what made me think of just getting an 8"

I've heard 10's that are better than 15's. Depends on the brands and models.

stock radio won't have enough RMS voltage in the speakers for a high level line input on the amp.
find a good pioneer you like with quality pre-out voltages and it will cut distortion 75%.
less distortion = more quality sound.
8's and 10's are great for rock and some pop.
12 is solid at everything. especially country and jazz.
15's excel at EDM and Rap.
its all about construction of the sub's magnet and response time to the hertz scale the sub is trying to reproduce.

I had 2 12" JL's in my ranger with 4 6x9's and 2 tweeters.
I had a punch 40 bridged on each 12, a punch 100 bridged and ran parallel to the 6x9's, and the radio amp pushing the tweeters.
So I would go with 2 10's ran parallel on a bridged amp.
