Not going to lie, Nicholls' new mascot does look a bit like a Nazi.
Guess you aren’t familiar with the old mascot? Local NAACP got all uppity about it 10-15 years ago.
Take your pick: nazi or Confederate

Has it been that long?
And I was talking about the actual mascot that walks around at games for what it's worth.

By 2004, an older version of the Colonel Tillou was considered antiquated and the decision was made to retire the mascot.[3] Nicholls State University President Stephen Hulbert stated that "The Colonel is and will remain the mascot designation for Nicholls State University and its intercollegiate athletics programs." Hulbert tasked student leaders to work on a suitable replacement. That process lasted six years and the "new" Colonel Tillou was introduced to the campus community in August 2009. It has been considered to look like a Red Army Soldier

So in short form ULT.
I would prefer SCLSU like one poster said.
Mud Dogs or Mudbugs might be some cool mascot ideas.
While we are close to the subject, if ED White doesn’t drop the ED White and go back to its original name of Thibodaux College, that could fit too, but university has a more prestigious ring to it, so Thibodaux University or TU.
If we are looking at individuals or family names who could replace in Modern History names could be:
Chabert University-named after State Senator Leonard Chabert who was a lion in the Senate to keep the university funded.
Galliano University - named after the 2nd president of the university Vernon Galliano, served when the university grew the most. Already the cafeteria is named after him.
Ayo University - named after the 3rd president of the university Donald Ayo, he is still living so this may need wait
Bollinger University - named after the Bollinger Shipyards family who has donated millions to the university
Danos University - named after Al and Mary Danos Family that has recently donated millions to the university
Chouest University - named after the Chouest family who decided to purchase the naming rights and will change the colors to the safety orange.

Nicholls should just downsize to JC
Not the worst idea. Maybe keep the nursing school as a 4 year program since that's mostly what they're known for.

How about:
Thibodaux Regional University
The last year the hospital reorganized itself into a nonprofit so that it can expand beyond just health care and Thibodaux. They call it the Thibodaux Regional Health System. They could be trying to be the next Oschner.
