Music is as much a commodity as everything else. The distribution and monetization model is just different

Is it? Whatever music was popular when you were in 8th grade is likely to be music you listen to for the rest of your life. The music from your teen years will always have a huge nostalgic pull on you because of the memories you made while listening to it.

Like the song that was playing when you and your first crush held hands for the first time, or the song you and your hs girlfriend slow danced to at Prom. Even if you grow out of that music, you will always return to it periodically because it's a part of who you are.

Not only that, but the style of music you are nostalgic for will continue to inform your tastes as an adult whether you are aware of it or not.

The streaming revolution has made the purchasing decisions of the consumer to feel less like a commodity transaction, but it absolutely is in the way that music is made available to you to find and stream.
