hasn't been quite that long for me but I feel you because I started no-gi and did that MMA thing for several years before my dumb arse finally asked how do I get ranked doing this?

I started with the gi. Guys hated it cause they didn't have the wind and would tire out. I wish i could have kept with it or that my body would allow me to start up again. It was a ton of fun.

I approach everything like I am still a white belt.

I can barely roll with White Belts anymore. I am way too old and beat up to even try to defend against some 20 something these days. Every once in a while I do, but I am coming to the end of that desire to go balls out on the mat.

I just pull guard with the 20 something white belts. I let them wear themselves out. When they put their hand on the mat... and they always put a hand on the mat I hit them with an oomaplatta.

Text book old man jiu jitsu. I hate that I have to go to guard pulling, but I cant match the speed and strength, so I have to use what I have.

I have a friend that used to train some with Rickson Gracie.

He tells a story of being at a seminar with Rickson and Rickson telling a guy that all he was going to try for were arm bars.

After arm barring the guy 4 or 5 times the guy finally admitted "the only way I'm going to keep you from getting my arm is if I cut it off and hide it out back".

Gracie replied, "No, I would still find it". Lol.
