Is it time to bring back Asylums?

They should have never been shut down in the first place.
Every time I make this point, people say you cannot hold someone against their will.
Yeah, and insane people shouldn't be unleashed to wreak havoc on a civilized society.

"Going to Mandeville" meant something a whole lot different when I was growing up than it does now.

Need to be as plentiful and as large as prisons.

We had Terrell and Wichita Falls.

Too late. Liberalism has affected millions everywhere. No longer confined to just large democratic cities.

Yeah, they were shut down in the 1970s.

I thought we just shipped all of them to Florida now?

Think they just changed names. Still a lot of mental homes.
Difference today is that a lot of families took care of their own crazies or took some responsibility.

Past time! We need them very badly. Lots of people just cannot function in society no matter how much medication and counseling they have. They become a danger to themselves and to others. Sadly, even the mental hospitals start banning particular patients once they become “frequent flyers”. Institutions are sometimes the only answer.

Think for a minute about who gets to decide if someone should be committed.

Went to my daughters school the other day for lunch. About a half dozen kids I saw were wearing earmuffs.
All those kids would be headed that way.

Greenwell Springs Hospital always freaked me out as a kid driving by on the way to Holiday Acres. Looked like a horror movie asylum.
It was real old school asylum that was around at least until the 90s. They used to have signs all around there in the 80s warning not to pick up hitchhikers.

It's past time to bring them back. They should have never left.

Got reversed. The whole world is an asylum now.

They never went away.
They’re called “Mental Hospitals/Institutions now”.
