The current federal law says, unfortunately. As soon as you check the box No in question F, you’re considered a felon if you are in “use of” while owning a firearm.

It doesn't say that all. I can quit the morning i fill out the 4473 and not be breaking the letter of the law. I also do not become a felon if i change my mind and begin partaking again down the road.
