Very sad day when I walked into a friend's office after we'd just been through a tense, early morning budget meeting and caught him taking a swig out of a bottle.

Do you know how many alcoholics have drank themselves to suicide and/or death under the notion that they can teach themselves to drink in moderation rather than be sober?

There is no such thing because an alcoholic has the inability to stop drinking once he or she starts.

No. Not a true alcoholic. That's what makes them alcoholics. Being an alcoholic isn't about how much one drinks, its about how behavior is affected WHEN ONE DRINKS.

I am 48. I drank a lot for 25 plus years but always managed my job, family, friends etc. found out wife had cancer and amped it up where I was drinking a handle of vodka every 3 days. Wife asked me to stop and I said I would. I didn’t. Got to the point to where if I had one sip I drank to a blackout. Went to rehab and got my life back and figured some things out. I will tell you that there is no way in hell I could have one beer without eventually ending up blackout drinking again. As a matter of fact one beer would just piss me off. That’s the difference between a casual drinker and an alcoholic. The kicker in all this is after being sober for 15 months I lost my wife to cancer but never had or have a desire to go back to drinking. As a matter of fact I’m blessed to be sober because I would have drank myself to death after losing her.

I can only speak for myself, but I know that I would not donate anything.
