So, I have been shopping for a while and have narrowed it down to two dealerships. They are both pretty similar on sale price for like packages. Therefore, my decision will be based on trade value and/or accessories thrown in. If I make both parties aware of the situation do I show the parties each other's offers? Do I black out the salesman's name but leave the context? Thanks.

Email them pics of the trade in and mileage and let the bidding begin. Obviously if you are hiding anything they'll have to adjust. Just did this last week

I'm pretty sure they can figure out their competitor based on minimal info. I'd let them see the contact info, unless it's the same dealership family.

Honestly you should probably just go down to the lot and talk to one of the salesmen. It's hard to trust anything on the internet and the salesman at the lot has your best interest in mind. Plus many car salesmen have families to feed

I am going to bring the trade in to each in the morning so they can make a firm offer. Then I will give them until the afternoon at which time I will go buy one of them.

Not the same family. I was thinking of blacking the salesman's name but leaving the @whatever.com to let him know it is legit.

You should probably talk to the finance guy as well and figure out how much you want to pay a month

Many years ago when I was in sales, if I had a customer start doing this shite I'd just let him walk. When you start working two guys against each other in such an explicit way, don't be surprised if they both move on to other customers.

I don’t think you have to show, at least to start. I’d make each dealership aware of the other though. A bidding war (even a fake one), works well.

It’s car sales. You aren’t looking to have a customer you work with on a daily or even yearly basis. If you pass on a sale, that’s your loss, not mine.

That is why I am asking. Btw, the sales manager is the one that decides. The salesman can still work other deals.

I didn’t have to when I used this tactic. They asked me to, and I turned it on them, saying that would not be ethical on my part. I gave them vague info on the region of the competitor dealership and price. They couldn’t believe I had a price $15k cheaper than their asking. I said well I guess y’all don’t have to believe it, I’ll just buy from them. They matched and closed.

There's some places that advertise "We'll beat anyones offer on your trade in, we'll beat anyone's blah blah"and if it is one of those places, by all means, print the email out and show up in hand.

But as a normal course of doing business, you are more likely to piss them off than get a better deal.

See who puts the best number down, and go with it.

Roger. I not going to be a dick about it but I think I have a little leverage and will try to exploit it. Of course, this is assuming they want to sell a vehicle by tomorrow afternoon. Maybe I will ask them how they would like me to handle it. I will verbally tell them and produce paper if asked.
