No need to cut siding, but I wouldn't use screws, I use lag bolts. You would rather overdo a mount than be week.
I also only ever get mounts that can hit two studs, I don't trust the one stud mounts.
Those mounts also make hiding wires easier.
So to answer question, which I am sure has been answered already. No you don't need to cut siding.

Damn, I've never done this. I use the same mount purchased on Amazon for all my TVs ranging from 32-50" and its a single stud mount with a rotating arm.
It does require 3 large bolts on the back though.
