Eats: LaFonda, Southside Bakery, Old Tyme Grocery (also has snowballs), Cajun Sno (snowballs open year round).

If there is one thing I hope the OP does, Its not listening to you.

Petes is awful. Every single bar except JSP downtown is awful. Lafonda is awful. And you listed a fricking snowball place under "Eats".

I have lived in BR almost my whole life so I wont really know anyone.

You will be back in BR fairly quickly. Be prepared to get asked where you went to high school A LOT.
Stay out of Broussard area, as everyone has said, it is for young families and traffic is atrocious. The only people who say Lafayette traffic is better than BR are people who have never lived in both cities. Lafayette is WAY worse mainly, bc there are only a few places to go and thing to do for individuals in different age brackets. Also, there are only 2 ways to get everywhere in town.
The food is legit in Lafayette and better than BR no questions asked. However, places to drink and hang out there are few that are like anything in BR, meaning, if I knew where you like to drink in BR I still could not tell you a comparable place.
If I were single and 24 I wold try to live near downtown or in Freetown. everywhere else is again for families as the town itself is very family friendly.
The jokes about Affliction and F-250s is dead on. Again, only people who have never lived outside of Lafayette for a significant amount of time can't see that.
FWIW i grew up in Laffy, lived in BR for 10 years during and after college, and now live in Scott. Let me be the first to say, "Dude, welcome to Lafayette, bruh."

My usual spots in BR were Bulldog and 3rd street like Roux House or Happys or B&Ts

Thanks everyone for the advice it is really appreciated. It sounds like for the most part it's what you make of it. The only concern I have is not knowing anyone but it sounds like there are plenty of places to go out and meet people if you are even a little bit social

There has been some good advice and some bad, here. What I can tell you is stay away from Bayou Shadows. The Landing is a great place and cheaper, but River Ranch is where your young professionals are living. Its really a nice area. If you are looking for a house, La Bon Vie subdivision is slightly north of I-10 and pretty nice. There is also Couret Farms. I'm not sure what the apartment landscape is like, but it is just getting going and will be a nice place.

Most of the places that people have posted to eat are spot on. Restaurants don't make it long out here if the food sucks.

Bulldog

Just a heads up. there is a Bulldog in Lafayette, but it is not affiliated with the Bulldog in BR/NOLA.

They do have a decent $1 burger on Wednesdays.

You'll be fine. I didn't know anyone and it was great. It really is a much better city than BR. I was a BR homer, thought it was the tits and everything. Moved to lafayette and realized BR was a total shithole.

If you live at the landing you can walk to dix, whole foods (bar in it has solid beer), tap room, pour and plenty of other places. That's why I enjoyed living there. It's not the best apartment in the world, doesn't have stainless steel appliances or granite countertops, but I didn't want that. I wanted a man cave where I can walk and bike to places.

Ham, you are living proof, dare I say "a shining example", that someone can move here, find a groove, thrive, and provide a positive advice on the takeaway.

Stereotypes be damned.

Can't agree more with this post, I also lived at the Landing and it is right in the middle of everything and not that expensive but right next to RR. If you're going to work that early you won't have any traffic to bother with, bars you can walk to, good food nearby plus nice scenery for an afternoon jog!

I was just going for cheap.

I don't even know what the rent is, but I nailed some chick in there once and assumed it was cheap because it sucked. The location is perfect, though. If he wants luxury, he should live in RR.

One of the hottest women I've ever met in my entire life was from Lafayette, Louisiana. I never got the courage to ask her out.

She's married now.

That's all I got. Good luck.
