For 2 years, I lived within walking distance of that Brookshires. It’s not a bad area at all. Quaint, quiet, country as hell.
Supadave, did you use to ride quads? Like motocross 4 wheelers?

No matter what anyone local tells you stay the frick away from Johnnys. God that place sucked.
I’m a local and I agree with you. I wouldn’t call it awful (depending on which location you pick), but it’s certainly not what everybody makes it out to be. 20 years ago it was truly legit, but it’s fallen hard.

Food options are pretty legit in Monroe. Much better honestly than my burb of Houston.
If you enjoy the outdoors, Monroe is like a mecca. Great fishing (need a boat or kayak) although golf might require spending a few bucks or driving a little bit. Hunting is great with public land all over the place. The river is an awesome place to spend weekends in the Summer, once again if you have a boat. And since I am BJJ junkie, there are 2 solid BJJ schools run by some great black belts with a great mix of students (which is actually quite odd considering the size of Monroe). If you can't find something to do in Monroe, you are probably an incredibly dull person.

If you ever find yourself with some free time, take a little ride west and south of I-20 and roll down Smith Street in Bawcomville. Park at Smith Street Liquor store and chill for a little while and enjoy the show

If it hadn’t been pumped up before I had it I probably wouldn’t have minded it but it was such a let down from how everyone around me built it up.

The Johnnys on Warren Drive in West Monroe is the best one. Some Johnny’s are better than others.

But all of them are overrated.

Check out okaloosa’s on Hudson lane. Great burger and fries, hamburger steak is Amazing as well. Surprised nobody mentioned this yet.

It has a nice atmosphere. I believe the atmosphere is better than the food. Parish is by far the best restaurant in Monroe. One of the best in the state when Corey Bahr is cooking.

1. Avoid Pecanland Mall in the evenings/night.
2. Consider anything south of Louisville (including as it turns into Desiard at Hwy 165) to be off-limits after dark.
3. Enoch's. Go there.
4. 2 Dudes Brew & Que (yes, I know... it's on Desiard, go in the daytime).
If you like being on the river, the Ouachita is great for skiing, fishing or just riding around. Be careful with the drinking and make sure your rig is compliant, Wildlife & Fisheries are always on the prowl. They're normally pretty level-headed but are serious about their job.
Johnny's Pizza can be hit-or-miss. If it's good, it's fricking magic. If it's not, it's just "meh".
Melvyn's (on the backside of the old mall, on Louisville) used to be kick-arse for steaks and burgers, but the last time I was there they seemed to have lost their magic a bit.
