We lived in PHX most our lives. Due to dryness the heat index is usually less than temp. The bad thing there is the lengthy summer window of heat. When I lived there I always told people peak heat in Louisiana is worse than PHX. I prefer PHX.

It was for alliterative purposes; if the OP would have used Odessa instead, it’d have been Opelousas.
Montegut (like where I’m from) is a good place to be FROM.
Y’all get some hellacious weather mood swings thereabouts.
Stay safe!
I went from living in the middle of the swamps and ridiculous humidity to middle of a desert and dry as frick.

Having grown up in South Louisiana and spend a couple of weekends a year out in the Coachella Valley, I'd say I much prefer the desert heat. This last time though tested that quite a bit. This was taken in my car in Palm Desert on a Saturday afternoon in OCTOBER. I love it out there and like to think that I could survive a summer in the desert having gone through so many in the jungle down south. Dunno....

OKC gets hot but definitely not as bad as Houston. I’d come home from a week in Houston and step outside in the evening and start the fire pit to warm up lol.

The hottest I've ever felt seemed like in Austin, TX.

I was in Kanab, UT a couple years ago. It was 104 degrees, but in the shade, we were perfectly comfortable.
