This freaks me out some with mine too.
My 19 month old dominates our attention with her cuteness and silliness and fussiness and all the other good things that come with having a baby and then a toddler. With so many memorable moments, you'd think that I would have a wealth of memories from when my 6-year-old son was a baby.
But I don't. I have some...but not more than I have with other things in my life. Maybe it's because little cute moments aren't really that worthy of being stuck in your brain that has to compartmentalize survival, work, sex, etc.
I will say I am extremely thankful to live in a time when HD video can be used to record life at any moment's notice. Going back and watching old videos of my son as a baby is an extremely fulfilling experience.

Night swimming was the best song they ever did, but I never got into them much.
This happens to me with more than music. Movies, people, places etc. I suppose it’s just a part of getting older, but I wish there was some way to tell which memories I’m about to ruin ahead of time.
How do I know it’s not butterfly effect or change in the matrix type stuff? It’s not so much get off my lawn, more like somebody changed my lawn. It’s weird.

Tastes change with age. I owned 400+ CDs in the early 90s and recently went through the box. I used to listen to Primus daily and couldn’t listen to it for more than 5 minutes 25 years later without thinking it wasn’t as good as I remembered. Same with Bob Mould, Smashing Pumpkins, etc..

Your tastes and interests changing as you grow older isn't curious. It's perfectly normal.

I can't remember the last time I forgot something...

The other day flipping channels and Coalminer’s Daughter was on. My wife commented that Sissy Spacek was much better looking than Loretta Lynn, and I disagreed. But then I pulled up a pic of Loretta and yes, she was not attractive despite the picture in my head from when I was a kid of her being so.
It just struck me as odd that my perception then and/or recall now could be so different than reality now.
