Boulder is nice bc close to Denver's amenities but too many hippies for my taste.
Charleston is great but not a "college town" in the traditional sense of the word.

Tempe, Madison, SD, Austin, and Charleston are not college towns.

I spent the summers with my grandfolks in Provo and Orem. The area around campus has a little bit of a college feel, but it's much more of a "mormon town". Great scenery and outdoor activities, though.

San Marcos, Texas. Texas state university (formerly southwest Texas state university). It's close enough to Austin to enjoy festivals and nightlife and 15 minutes east of Some of Texas' beautiful hill country (Wimberley, dripping springs, etc.)

Some of the answers in this thread. I see we're using the term "college town" very loosely.

I've always thought "college town" was universally understood to mean a town that exists primarily because the college is there. I guess I was wrong.

Miami? LA? Austin? Those are cities that have colleges in them. They're not college towns.

FTR, it they had to be outside the SEC, mine would be:

Chapel Hill, NC
Ann Arbor, MI
Williamsburg, VA

I should also mention that the Pepperdine campus is pretty sweet. And it's sufficiently removed from the rest of LA that it isn't as LA as one might think.

This. I visited the campus once, it's probably a perpetual California beach party with classes thrown in.
