APA Statement
quote:
The American Academy of Pediatrics believes that circumcision has potential medical benefits and advantages, as well as risks. Evaluation of current evidence indicates that the health benefits of newborn male circumcision outweigh the risks and that the procedure's benefits justify access to this procedure for families who choose it, however, existing scientific evidence is not sufficient to recommend routine circumcision. Therefore, because the procedure is not essential to a child's current well-being, we recommend that the decision to circumcise is one best made by parents in consultation with their pediatrician, taking into account what is in the best interests of the child, including medical, religious, cultural, and ethnic tradition
wow, 3 out of 4 reasons are non-medical in nature

I didnt watch this with my son. First night when he stayed in the nursery I assume they did it then. He looked just as happy and healthy when we got him back

It's also fun stirring up the anteaters in these threads. They should use that energy and extra time instead washing their smelly dicks.

I had my son cut because I wanted him to be like the majority of middle class kids in the US and not get teased. Watching him get cut was the worst thing I've ever seen.

someone being honest with
(A) their reason
(B) having the guts to actually watch

I did. Drs/nurses said we gotta cut some inches off that 3rd leg down there or he'll have problems bottoming out too much as an adult.
good genetics I guess

i'm cut.
i'm just not brain-washed enough to repeat that mistake on my own son.
i'm also not doing something to him because i'm afraid he'll be teased. my son is going to be stronger than that.
i'm also not so insecure about what i lost that i feel my son needs to look like me.

Had a boy back in January. We had already decided to circumcise anyways, but there was no pressure or assumption that we would. Yes or no question, inform the pediatrician that she needed to do that when she came in. We weren't in the room with him, but it was just down the hall and he put up a tiny bit of a fuss, that's it.

i had no less than *2* nurses attempt to take him off to be circumcised and i had to actually walk out with one and say EXCUSE ME, you heard me clearly say he's not to be circumcised right??
and she took out her notes & scratched out what she wrote.
At a Louisiana hospital?

I mean keep it clean it won't be a problem. I dont care about your dick . It absolutely has been listed as a risk factor in those. It's not a debate

Nashville.
No malice intended by the nurses, but its scary how easily this could have happened since its not the norm what we did.

Yeah I don't buy that story either. Consents have to be signed. And now.....some hospitals don't even do then anymore....you have to have it done outpatient after baby leaves. Plus....the cost as well. Not covered by Medicaid now and even some insurances. Trust me....they aren't gonna do a procedure without a consent and payment.

Have you already stated why you think it's a mistake? I really don't get this debate, and they seem to pop up like everyday, especially on facebook. The new one I heard a month or two after my boy was born was that hospitals cut the umbilical cord too soon, that the baby misses out on essential........something right after they are born.
My wife is a nurse, so I trust her with any decision. We've agreed on all of it, though. Circumcision, vaccinations, breast feeding. We've done it all, and my boy is in perfect help and pretty darn happy.

Pray tell dear DirtyMikeandtheBoys, what esteemed hamlet or village do you hail from?
Surely you must have spilled from the count of Her Majesty or some other revered aristocrat.
Please, do yourself a favor and never offer up such your or blatant idiocy ever again. I have neither the time nor the inclination to watch you badmouth the community where several of my friends were raised.

Congrats on the life of shame and ridicule you've brought down on your son.

Well, I guess there could be an assumption based on odds. But if it's going to be an option, at least pay attention to the desires of the parents.
