Very sad. Really feel for the 9 year old. I hope it doesn't frick her up permanently.

Yes, it's quite sad. I feel more for the kid than the instructor, and I imagine it will take a long time and much therapy before the little girl can come to grips with what happened.

Both good choices. I'd also recommend a single shot .17 HMR. I gave my son a Sportster 17 Hornady Magnum Rimfire for Christmas a few years ago and he loves it. It's a really good rifle to use to teach them how to use a scope.

Right.

If there's one thing I learned from all of the rioting last week its that the need to protect my family if real. Picked up a new pistol.

Better teach them early since they may have the need while I'm at work. Preperation is the key.

Gun people make no sense.... in a thread about tragic consequences of giving children guns to shoot, posters report on giving guns to their children to somehow protect themselves. Did no one see the Walking Dead and how stupid this idea is? Kids should never be left alone to protect themselves in the first place, and in no world is it necessary for a kid <13 to learn how to shoot. They're simply not developed enough maturity or strength to muster a weapon. In a sane world, this would be "adult's only" yet gun people take pride in giving their kids weapons they can kill themselves and their family with on accident. I just hope the govern't doesn't have to pay to bury the bodies of these Darwin winners.

The news just reported that in response to the tragedy of a nine year old girl killing her instructor, the range "has raised the minimum age to use an Uzi to twelve."

It was not an Onion article.
