I apologize for thinking at the age of 18 that having a dependable source of income later in life would be a good thing. I think after 3 tours overseas I am entitled to it.

Nothing stops anyone that wants to enlist in the military from doing so, unless you have made bad choices.

I think the more important point that you keep ignoring is it's really fricking easy to support a shut down when you still have your own job.

Just like you are entitled to unemployment benefits and Social Security and Medicare. Are you not going to take the money?

Surprising how you took those 3 words out all I wrote. But then I don't remember seeing you in Afghanistan or Iraq.

Typical attitude for the "shut it down" group is "I've got mine, screw you."

Those without income for a month probably have a very different perspective than you. Articulately small business types who have a very uncertain future.

Are you saying the shutdown and the fact that I work 60 hour weeks are somehow my fault. Funny how people who about the personal accountibility from the rooftops fail to look at their life decisions and see what got them to the spot they are in.

No. I'm just saying it's easy to not give a shite about things that don't directly affect you.

And it's doubtful you'd have the same position if it did affect whatever job it is that you do now

I started a business too. But part of the business plan was what to do in the event of a natural disaster. You have to plan for the unexpected if you want to be a business owner. There were a lot of purchases I could have made and expenses I could have accrued, but I didn't. My grandmother told me to always keep a few nickels in my pocket in case you need one. It is good advice.

Insurance usually covers disasters, it doesn't cover government forced shutdowns.

I'm sure this was the prevailing sentiment on this board before the pandemic. It is still the main one on the Political Talk board.

It's seems the only difference is that for some people the shoe is on the other foot.

That is a good point. The PPP has not been the success that many thought it would be. I am also wondering why the SBA is sitting on billions it could be loaning out.

I put myself in a position where I would not be affected by an economic downturn. And it required hard work, discipline, perseverance and sacrifice. These things seem to be in short supply suddenly.

There's nothing wrong with working for Mary Kay or flipping burgers or any job. As long as your are doing your best.

People who probably have never done a hard days work in their life generally are the ones who try to put down other people for earning a living.

Fantasy based on personal bias. Weird how "working" became so evil all of of a sudden.

Ths economics disaster was largely preventable.

How would you have prevented it. Many people would not have gone to work in March anyway. The drop in consumer spending would have depressed economic growth no matter what.
