That leaves the Generation Xers - people born between early 60s and early 80s.

I think the recession was a wake up call for many gen yers. Their egos suffered the most.

I think 20 years is too big of a sample. that said I agree.

There are Gen Xers who are children of WWII veterans, and there are Gen Xers who are children of Baby Boomers.

The first half of generation Y is awesome. It's the latter half that is ruining it for everyone. There's a pretty clear demarcation between those who grew up with the internet and those who didn't.

The second half is often called the silent generation because these kids are incapable of building real relationships.

Maybe a little much, but I'm just saying that if the internet went out, I could manage.

The toughest thing would be getting over no Tigerdroppings.

But hey, I might actually get that deck painted with my new spare time.

I don't consider people born between 80-84 generation x.

There has to be some kind of term because having been born in 85, I can remember life with no internet.

Hell, we didn't even get a home computer until 97.

According to Wikipedia - Demographers, historians and commentators.

I think the designation is a bit of a lagging indicator. You have to look back in history and see how they line up. Major historical and technological events have a big say in how they do the demarcation I bet.

I'm Gen X and we are irrelevant. Our numbers were dwarfed by the boomers and we will be dwarfed by millennials. We are a cool generation, but we will never be the most influential of our time.

I was born in 86, but identify much more with Gen X. I think that's due to being the youngest with 3 siblings solidly in Gen X (my younger sister was 84, so she's close as well). My wife was born in '82, and she is a definite Gen X'er.

I can see a totally different mindset and attitude with the people we are hiring these days that are only 3-4 years younger than me. It's crazy.

I think it's all cyclical, gen x is the 30 - 50 crowd, which is always the age group getting the job done, they are the varsity team, gen y is the jv, the boomers have graduated.

The varsity always thinks the jv doesn't compare and the graduates are has beens and need to move on.

FWIW, I'm a latter gen x'er, 75, raised by rural old school boomers, I'm also not a suburb gen x'er, but went to junior high and high school with them.

I've always thought I was a millennial gen y guy but I looked it up and I apparently made the last year of being a gen xer.

I've always identified with Gen X more than Gen Y anyways.

EtA: our music is better than the Boomers or Millennials by mile.

I love how people can make such broad generalizations about a group of people such as generation Y without having any real iteration with them on a daily basis to actually know how they relate with one another.

You make such a wide statement such as "Generation Y is a bunch of lazy entitled punks. I think everyone knows that. There is no dispute there" but really how many 15-30 year olds do you know personally?

Don't take how the media portrays the younger generations as the complete truth. We aren't like Miley Cyrus. We aren't any worse than other generations. We aren't all a bunch of lazy entitled punks. Sure there are bad apples in every batch of people but to group all young people together in an insult and then "support" it by saying "there is no dispute there" is ridiculous
