leaking water from top right side of box and the pan under the compressor is bone dry. Any thing I can do myself or do I need to make a phone call to service? Thanks in advance.

If you can find the drain line, you can usually clear it with bleach-water solution.

GE refrigerators are the absolute worst. I have a GE. We are hoping it dies soon so we can justify the replacement cost to ourselves.

This one is set up a little different then most. The water is leaking from the top, but can't see from where.

Yeah. This is very common.

Need to remove ice from drain area. Then clear drain line.
Lastly wrap a 6" bare copper wire around the heater add go into the hole a couple of inches. This will transfer heat into hole.

I can't find any info on line for this box, but you would think on the freezer side.

I've never seen a "rubber flapper valve" in a fridge.
Some have a rubber pinch point in the back that acts as a stop gap to keep things from going up the drain. But no flap.

Op, it's ice. It's always ice.

I had the same problem with my Samsung refrigerator. After defrosting it I took a piece of copper wire and wrapped it around the heating element and stuck the end of it down the drain hole. It has been fine since.

Oh, I see Napoleon is here. Listen to him. I fixed mine with his solution.

Oh...one of those. Prayers sent. Call a pro. There is no harder fridge to work on. I'd charge$200 just to defrost one of those.
The coils are hidden above the ceiling of the freezer. 30 screws need to come out. If it's frozen solid you risk breaking it.

You're probably looking at a $400 repair at least.

I'm going to back away, because I do not suggest diy work in those Monograms.

Had the same problem on my fridge last year. Fixed it myself with no experience. As others have said, the fix itself is really simple. Just have to wash out the rubber valve. The hard part is, depending on the model, you might have a lot of work just doing all the de-assembly and defrosting. Whole thing took me a couple hours, including moving my food to another fridge and taking off the freezer drawer so I could get to the back and speed up the defrosting with a hairdryer. Mine was an absolute bitch getting to the screws and removing the drawers. Removing and cleaning the clogged valve took about 30 seconds

Hello, I am so glad that I found this thread on Internet.

I have a GE monogram model# ZISS420DRCSS that is having the exact same problem Tiger2 experienced: the evaporator (at the top of the freezer) part leaks water into the freezer or fresh food compartment, and the pan under the condenser is dry, so no water flows from the evaporator drain pan to the condenser's pan, and it accumulates and eventually overflows into the freezer or FF compartment.

I want to see if I can fix it DIY, and the closest instructions I found on Internet is the icing kit replacement: LINK

Question to Napoleon, Neauxla_Tiger, and Tiger2:
(a) if it is the ice that clogged the drain tube/hose, will I be able to fix it by unplugging the fridge and let it sit in the room temperature for 48 hours?
(b) if it's rubber valve, what's the quickest way to get the drain hose out and clear it up? Can it be done without getting the hose out?

[Edit]: found the service guide: LINK

Agreed it’s def ice. I have an LG and cleared the ice but didn’t do the copper wire rig. Some people were saying it’s a fire hazard which I didn’t understand but pussied out anyway.

I did the following and the fridge (GE Monogram) worked OK for over 2 months:
(1) get the drain tube out of the pan under the compressor : this is the tube funneling water from the evaporator to the drain pan under the compressor (cf. LINK ). Remove one plastic fastener behind the compressor and slowly move the tube out of the compressor compartment;
(2) Once the tube is out of the drain pan, you have access to the open end of it. Now here is the fun part: blow as hard as you can from this end if you suspect something clogged the tube. I did this and I heard something coming out of the drain pan hidden under the evaporater! And that fixed the problem.

Before (1) and (2), I spent 2+ hours to clear the freezer and got all the way to remove the evap fan, and could see and touch the evap coil, but could not do much to unclog the tube. I eventually gave up and tried (1) and (2) and it worked. In retrospect, there is really no need to work from the freezer compartment.
