Low on refrigerant.
Money question is how did it escape.

freon leak or dirty evaporator coil

Shut the unit off until the coil thaws. then try cleaning the coils
then restart unit. if it freezes up again, then u likely need Freon

Turn unit off and let it thaw. In addition to what everyone else said-change your filter

a frozen evap takes 3 hours to thaw out with just the fan blowing on it. OP
Turn ac off on thermostat. Select fan only. Let run for 3 hours then try again. Only after cleaning the dirty coil first though.

Shouldn't have frozen up overnight unless there is a leak. Check pressures and add if necessary. There is a table online of what r134a pressures should be at each outside temperature. If it happens again quickly, call an A/C man

Was it flooded? I've seen some funky contactors. If the contacts are fused together the unit will not shut off until you cut the breaker/disconnect.

quote:This is correct. Happened to me earlier in the year and a/c first visit he turned off the unit completely, came back the next day after thawing to fix issue and add Freon.
Shut the unit off until the coil thaws.
