I think owls are awesome creatures...I just wish they stayed awake during the day, so we could see them more often. A few owls can make quite a ruckus when they start calling to one another.

Also, any bird that shits the bones of small animals just impresses the hell out of me.

I was in my parents neighborhood a few years ago and as I came up to a stop sign, there was a huge owl posted on top of the sign. I pulled up next to it and it stared at me for a few seconds and then took off into the night. It was cool as hell.

Owls are badass

I heard 3 robins shrieking outside my kitchen window. I looked out and saw this huge owl pluck one of the robins out of the air and fly off into the trees. It was a pretty cool sight.

back in the day we used to have a couple of owls in my neighbor hood.

We would see them flying at night, so quiet and creepy. Awesome birds.

They have the best night vision and hearing of any bird, and also are the most silent in flight. Owls are rodent killing machines and completely awesome. Great Horned Owls are particular badasses. They will eat an amazing variety of animals, even raiding Bald Eagle nests to try for eggs or chicks.

A partial list of food items they have been documented eating includes: hares, rabbits, mice, coots, and ducks (these are generally staples of their diet); skunks, ground squirrels, rats, muskrats, tree and flying squirrels, woodchucks, prairie dogs, raccoons, house cats, very small dogs, porcupines, voles, kangaroo rats, pocket gophers, moles, opossums, chipmunks, shrews, bats, bobcat, weasels, geese, herons, loons, mergansers, grebes, rails, pigeons, starlings, other owls up to and including Great Horned Owls, Osprey, crow, raven, hawks, pheasant, bobwhite, Rhinocerus Auklet, chickens, grouse, shorebirds, gulls, egrets, bitterns, woodcocks, doves, woodpeckers, songbirds, lizards, snakes, frogs, toads, salamanders, worms, crayfish, insects, centipedes, scorpions, suckers, chubs, perch, bluegills, sunfish, catfish, bullheads, and eels.
