That's why I said if planned properly.

But what's better all these suicide lanes or carefully planned U-turns?

Siegen if reengineered with U-turns, designated right turn lanes, etc. instead of the suicide lanes and shopping center exits and entrances wherever; could be made much more useful and a whole lot safer.
it isnt that easy when you have a set budget.

Land cost money.

im spit balling numbers but what was it, the Hurricane protection system in NOLA was quoted to be around 5 billion before the planning started......turns out thy forgot to incorporate land acquisition, and the final cost was around 16 billion.

No, but there is a huge right of way along Siegen, and it's not cheap pouring all that concrete for a suicide lane. No suicide lane, better engineering, fewer exits and entrances, etc. and you are in business.

Any idiot can add lanes and suicide lanes, a real planner is needed to organize a thoroughfare.

And what does hurricane protection in NO have to do with planning, designing, and building highways in BR.

Siegen is an abortion.

It was a good idea to put the median there. I’ve, personally, had near misses turning left out of the plaza when I worked at GNC. You also eradicate the driver blocking both lanes sitting there waiting to turn left.

I don't eat fast food or shop at trashy grocery stores so this isn't an issue for me.

wtf is a suicide lane?

well the model showed it should be a 6 lane road.

a little evidence that land cost money.

never said it wasnt.

I have had this conversation was many people and wwe have com to the conclusion it really isnt the fault of dotd but more the city of baton rouge. Im most cities, if you are building a gigantic development, you have to also pay for increase infrastructure to take the demand of the deveoplment. The CITY requires this. In BR, they dont.

I say this because look at Burbank @ Lee. With all these new Apt complexes and the new Rouse's development, this intersection should have been beefed up a few miles each way in all 4 directions.... but No, thy just put up a turn lane and called it good, because the city didnt require them to do anything. Mark it, in the next few years burbank is going to be more of a traffic cluster than it is now. It will resemble Siegen.

In the case of Siegen the "7th." lane down the center which permits left turns from opposite directions in the same lane.

No one has said six lanes is a problem.

Sure it cost money, but in the case of Siegen, the right of way (publicly owned) is already there.

Sure EBR requires developers to offset their developments with improvements. they make them add turning lanes, and they make them add lanes to the grid. For instance the developer of the Mall of La. had to widen Bluebonnet and add turning lanes, etc. as part of his deal when the mall was first constructed.

I have reason to believe the developers at Lee and Burbank are paying dollars to offset the road construction there.

And the intersection just got redone. That's why the OP is mad.

People turning into and out of that parking lot fricked traffic up. I’m glad the median is there.

Now they need to do the same on Lee near Nicholson to stop the lazy inconsiderate fuks that cross & block 3 lanes of traffic to turn left out of AM Mart

The worst design of all-time is the left entrance from Williams Blvd onto I-10 Eastbound in Kenner/Metairie. frick whoever designed that.

Same goes for that off ramp to nowhere once the mall finally folds (32nd Street) that ramp is in the same cluster.

With as many traffic studies the state pays for and ignores, you would think the state’s traffic engineers would be experts at traffic.

With certain projects in the state, our engineers have perfected only making more gridlock.

That intersection has been exponentially improved.

Of course, it will turn to shite again when the Rouse's and other stores open at the corner.
