I had a kidney stone slightly bigger around than a quarter. It had to be removed via a Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy It was not a fun procedure. They knock you out and a radiologist sticks a tube into your kidney. Then, they take you to the big o.r. to remove it.

They had me pee in a jug for 24 hours and send it off to a lab to be tested. They sent me a report of foods to avoid. Ironically, most of the foods to avoid would be ones that people consider to be healthy. Like greens and other vegetables.

The longest I can remember one hanging out in my bladder is a couple of weeks. They tend to pass in the first pee of the morning just after waking up.

I used to use a strainer, but after so many, I quit that.

My dad also used to get them really bad, so I think there is a genetic component to it.

By far the biggest offender is spinach. I had stupidly been eating shitloads of that.

I have had 17 lithotripsies so far and am fighting a stone now. Plus I have a pill bottle half full of stones I have recovered myself.

I have passed stones on three continents, on multiple golf courses, and at 38,000 feet in an airplane. I can't say it has all been fun.

Dear Infraweb friends - I bring receipts. I just passed this one about 30 minutes ago. If you ever wondered why calcium oxalate stones hurt so bad, it is like sand crystals that have been superglued together. This one was about 1/4". It uh... GOT MY ATTENTION COMING OUT. But of course, it already had my attention for the last couple of weeks.

because the fricking thing jammed the 'door' open from your kidney to your penis.

you gotta wait for it to move further down the urinary tract for that feeling to go away.

I had this stuck stone in the ureter to the bladder and my Urologist went in with a laser and blasted it. I was put under general anathesia for it so I thought boy I am going to skip all this pain I kept hearing about...

When I woke up I was in pain all over and the nurse asked me like an hour later if I wanted a pain pill. I could have choked her. But the bad thing was they put a stint in my ureter so it would not swell shut from the procedure. About every 2 hours my bladder would contract and I would have to go immediately and it was like someone sticking a knife in my side. They told me I had to keep that thing in for a week.

Everyone is different though. My neighbor had one put in like that and he never even knew it was in there. A couple months later his doctor called and said he had to come in to get it removed.

I’ve had one. And don’t ever want another one. And would not wish it on my worst enemy.

Had them before and it crippled me for days doing nothing but lay down in fetal position. MD basically gave me tranquilizers to knock me out until they passed.

I’ve passed 4 in my 61 years of life and none of them were fun. The first one was the worst
