I don't necessarily think Fish may have done this thread if he was full of coffee. That being said, you don't know who you are talking about and guessed wrong.

This dude served his country his whole life and didn’t give a frick what people thought. Agree or disagree with some of his politics

Well, my Dad did too with just short of 60 years. And yes, he was a Vet as 3 out of 4 of his son's. Was he a hero? No. he serviced his country.

The word" hero" is used way to loose for the fine gentleman. Sure, I had found that he was a good person, but still, what about the 56K_ young men that gave their life? I'm 61 and one of my brothers died 20 years later due to Agent Orange. He was only 40.

So, FU for those that think any difference.

I am not sure about this, especially his last couple of years...

I appreciate his service to this country, it should be appreciated and respected. His political career and what he did over his last remaining years is a whole other story. I'll just leave it at that.

Condolences to the family. Its the disgusting to watch anyone suffer and deteriorate from cancer, I don't wish that on anyone.

I am not lumping his service in the military and his political career together. Those are completely separate things people are addressing as one

He served, as did many, many others. He should get credit for that.

His last couple of years in congress basically voting against the American people is where I have an issue with him.

Not his service time.

Agreed.

he saw how horrible war could be so he spent his career trying to make sure more people could see how horrible war could be.

i wouldn't wish his illness on anybody but he was a piece of shite.

Dude I think your getting way too caught up in the use of the word hero. I think Because of McCains dad he had the opportunity to be released in a prisoner exchange and told them no he wouldn’t be released until all the rest of the men were. I don’t know if that is a heroic action but it damn sure wasn’t a cowardly move.
I think a hero is someone who makes a difficult choice when their is a much easier decision. I hope if I’m presented with that same decision I make the same choice, but no one knows till they are in those shoes. Do I think he is a hero on the level of audy Murphy, No but at the same time his actions were more heroic than a lot of people in that same circumstance.

You think that? I train those in the Marines how to escape and survive .

Sorry to say even as a Vet, we did a job. Those that gave their life are the hero's.

But I bet you believe that a wealthy 5 time deferred draft dodger that has sacrificed nothing is a real man?

Would burn at stake. My family been supporting this country for over 200 years with many of family member's giving their life's for it. In fact, I am living on a piece of land that can be traced back over 220 years that has been in my family.

Now, if you can trace tour roots that far back supporting this country, just let me know.

My biggest problem is the "word" hero used in such a way. Really.

I think a lot of people on here can make that claim, with many giving their lives.

What the hell does that have to do with anything?

lol Did you mean to quote "hero"?

It's subjective and not worth getting this upset over.

I can not make a whole lot of sense out of whatever it is that gibberish you posted is supposed to mean, however in response to this particular statement:
quote:

Now, if you can trace tour roots that far back supporting this country, just let me know.

Oh...do you mean like my Clan Stirling lineage that can be traced back to 1300's Scotland that immigrated to West Feliciana in the late 1700's? Like my great-ancestor Alexander who in 1773 served in the First Regiment of Genadiers under Spanish General Don Bernardo de Galvez against the British to regain control of that area of Louisiana for Spain? Whose son Lewis later fought in the Battle of New Orleans and was the leader of the West Florida Rebellion against Spain in 1810 that captured the Spanish Fort of Baton Rouge? Lewis who had Wakefield Plantation built on the long held family estate outside of St. Francisville obtained in 1783 that still remains in the family to this very day? Yeah...just thought I would let you know. And by the way, politics does not determine what makes a hero...actions and deeds do!
