That term is actually reserved for people who still think that phrase is cool.

But you should be. Your time is worth $. And by wasting that time he's costing productivity. I imagine you contribute more to our society's economy than this govt. worker. I don't understand this religious like reverence for cops. It's what they use to keep us in the police state. It's a powerful mindfrick.

It depends a great deal on the arresting officer. I've noticed that here in Virginia you hardly ever get a warning no matter what your behavior.

It generally depends on the department and which division pulls you over. If you are pulled over by a large departments traffic division or the State Police you are generally going to get a ticket. If you are pulled over by a large departments patrol division or a sheriffs office patrol deputy you have a very good chance of getting a warning because they don't want to bother with a traffic citation. If you are pulled over by a small department officer you have a 50/50 chance becuase those guys generally have to do traffic and patrol and it will depend on how he is feeling and how policte you are. I promise you that info is golden and you can take it to the bank.

hyperbole much? Who said anything about revering them? Policemen have authority to enforce whatever laws they see fit. Whether you agree or not, that's the power that they hold. In my situation he had the power to either give me a ticket and cost me money, or not. I simply did what I could control to make the situation as non-stressful/threatening for him as possible, and I was rewarded for it.

If you're referring to my thread from earlier this week, I wasn't hoping that he would threaten me nor were my intentions to provoke him into doing anything.

Keep in mind in my situation it was also at night on an interstate in rural Texas. Not daylight on a surface street in the Atlanta Metro.

I wasn't referring to any person/thread in particular, just the general mindset that people shouldn't GAS how they act in that given situation.

did the officer sprint to the window immediately after the pull over? Like I said, in my situation today I had already done everything before he even opened his car door.

Is your rear window significantly tinted?

If he can see your every move from the rear, what you did is a good way to have a cop draw his weapon in anticipation of a potential conflict.

Well I don't keep anything in my glove compartment so I don't have to worry about that. My license, insurance, and registration is in my wallet, which was in my center console. I simply reached in and got it out. And like I said, by the time he got to my window he could clearly see my hands on the wheel.

I mean, It all worked out for you, which is fine.

I just wouldn't do shite in terms of reaching around my car/opening compartments until the cop told me to do so. I'd just turn the car off and keep my hands on the wheel until instructed otherwise.

Maybe he has copies?

I have two insurance cards. One in my wallet, one in my glove compartment.

Whenever my insurance renews they give me like 5 copies of the card, I have one in both places. Likewise when I renew my tag (don't know if it's different in LA) they give me 2 copies as well.

I mean I definitely understand that line of thinking, but I like mine as well. Think about it this way. Cop approaches your window. Car is off and hands on the wheel, good. He asks for your license then you reach to open a compartment (glove, console, whatever)...he has no idea what your intentions are or what you're about to grab. Even for just that slight half a second he could be leery of what you're about to do.

If for some reason he was all hopped up on caffeine or something and had already exited his car and started walking towards me before I could do it, I probably wouldn't have. But since I had a few seconds I just went ahead and got it.

Nah tough guy, I did exactly what I said. And I left 5 minutes later without my bank account getting any lighter.

And your situation is a little different than a cop just demanding to see some ID randomly on the street

Certainly...but I can say that in my entire time on earth that's never happened to me before. Most likely because I've never been doing anything to warrant unwanted attention in that way.

Several years ago I was walking back to my apartment when I got stopped and had to show my ID. I wasn't doing anything to warrant attention other than being black.
