quote:during your 10 hours off, you need to actually eat, shower and sleep your arse off. You have 14hrs to drive 11. I dont frive all 11 mosy of the time. Like 8 to 10. Hopefully your job will ential one or two stops to break up the long drives. Take it one day at a time. When your tired, never keep driving. Pullover somewhere safe and punch off clock and take a 2 hr nap. Never drive tired or sleepy. I drink coffee once a day. Adequate Sleep is really your best friend and the secret to driving a long day.
sorry if already asked. How many hours are you allowed to drive and how do you stay awake. I'm very tired after four/five hours driving by myself behind the wheel (unless I'm chewing tobacco for the nicotine high).

Crack whores or Meth whores at the truckstops?

Does your company have driver-facing cameras?

quote:depends on how fast the vehicle I wanna pass is going. I know everyone's speed way before I wanna pass someone. We have radar equipment. At headquarters we all have monitors with all of our trucks vitals and camera rolling. They know how fast we are going, cars ahead are going, if the truck is running right etc. FYI. Interactive cruise shuts off the mi ute our wipers come on. Nice safety feature. Never should be on cruise during rain or slippery surface.
you wait till vehicles behind you are a minimum 1 mile away before you decide to get in left lane and try to pass? Because that is the gold standard for a good truck driver not backing up traffic 20 vehicles deep

Are CB radios still big ? Do you have one? If so which model?

Super 10 splitters. I prefer 13 speeds but don't see them in newer trucks.

When my BILgot out of the service he decided to try truck driving for a while. His second solo trip he got stuck on an iced up mountain road where he couldn't go forward or back without sliding. He caught a ride down the mountain and fed exed them the keys.

quote:i needed an adjustment twice. They just did me a split break cause I lost a couple hours. Sat for 2 off the clock, got two back and made sure I put in sleeper mode for my 10, not put myself off duty or it wouldnt be 10 off, it would be longer. I don't know anything about the antennas. Our clock is on a tablet ran by wifi. All of our trucks have wifi.
How often do you have the company make illegal edits to your digital time cards when you need to find an extra 30 minutes
And can you still cover the antennas with a basketball cut in half then start your hours accordingly
Only tricks I know about is our truck are set to run ac when it's above 69 degrees outside I think or they shut off of below 69 when your in park at night sleeping. It's still hot with no air. The thermostat is on the side mirror, truckers wrap a long sock loaded with hand warmers in them and tie the over the thermometer

I drive locally now. I will say this, sleeping in an ice cold sleeper after driving for 10 hours is the best sleep you will ever get. It’s like being back in your mama’s womb.

Anything the non truck drivers do that help or really piss you off?
Other than cutting you off as you drive down the new bridge? (We’re not going to stop that THERE)

quote:they have forward facing and inward cameras. I have always wished they would have rear trailer cams but they don't put them. Yiu can use your own and place it on rear door however that works. Some people do it with their own cameras. Fittings would be a great thing to have. Every has cameras and my company for example has forward facing cameras and I division of our company constantly has them rolling for their protection of course. Other companies may use a inward facing camera and have the cam on windshield and they are ran by a third party company. Very simple stuff.
Are cameras being used more?
As a complete outsider to the industry, it seems to me like it would be relatively easy and relatively cheap to just freaking plaster cameras all over the tractors at least, and at least build fittings into the trailers, and enough screens in the cab to see everything.
For that matter, it must be getting cheap enough to consider feeding the imagery into a separate computer and getting some kind of real-time feedback similar to a HUD. Do you know of anybody pursuing things like that? Or would it be unnecessary overload rather than helpful?

I wonder about the longevity of being a truck driver. I think I saw you are in your 30s; do you think you'll be able to do this for 25 more years? If so, what type of retirement are you looking at?
Did you want to be a truck driver as a kid or did you fall into it out of necessity?
Have you ever witnessed a fight between truck drivers at a stop and if so, let's hear about it.
