I agree. It's an Auto-antonym.
Does anyone else think Merriam-Webster's second definition is insufficient? They define the non-literal (meaning #1) meaning as:

That seems to mean -- for practical purposes, nearly, essentially -- or almost meaning #1.
It seems that they should replace those words with -- figuratively and/or hyperbolically -- or something to that effect.
