Did you name it something stupid?
I bet you did.
Probably Carl.

"Pit bull" isn't an actual breed. It's essentially a mut of several different kinds (including possibly a boxer) that is bred with fighting in mind. Being as it is largely undefined that is why the pit bull panic type of stuff is largely bullshite. Pretty much any aggressive dog gets labeled as a pit bull.

I can definitely see the lab/boxer - you got him while he was young; just raise him right and don't let the pussies on here freak you out.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not take away that precious pup's new home because of the OT asshats.

Considering statistics is part and parcel to studying animal behavior, that’s a bad bet on your part.

Even though most dog attacks are by pits, the VAST majority of pits never attack anyone.
And that is definitely not a purebred pit - the lab is plain as day. Don't worry and enjoy your new family member OP

Stop being such a throbbing pussy
Love the puppy and it will love you back.
This is not difficult
TTYL. I hear your wife calling because she wants to peg you.

Dogs are social. Get a little female puppy he can grow up with. Will make life easier for all concerned when you're gone and they're alone. Just get the spay & neuter stuff done.

He already wants to eat you. I can see it in his eyes!!
For real though, I'm sure it'll be fine. Just walk the line and don't piss him off.
Dog to you:

Cute puppy.
I thought I was getting a mix, and it turned out to be a pure bred American Staffordshire Terrier (1 of the 3 main breeds known as pitbulls). And I really can't complain at all. The most affectionate and extroverted dog I've ever had.
If you want to be certain you won't have issue in the future, socialize the hell out of that dog for the next several months.
Mine was 3 months when I got her (the hungover dude at the shelter said 6 months). So I brought mine everywhere she was allowed (except restaurants) until about 9-10 months old. I brought her to 6+ music festivals (T-Bois and Bayou Bugaloo were the best for her). She went to a lot of bars. I also brought her to a dog park 2-3 times/week.
A vast majority of dog attacks are due to fear. Dogs don't run when they're scared. So remove the fear, and remove the risk.
Kids and drunk people are unpredictable as hell. Dogs like predictability. Get them around as many unusual human behaviors young, and they can roll with anything. The more hands on their face, the more they acclimate. It can be an inconvenience at times, but it's well worth it in the long run.
Also, I mad sure I punished my dog for any dominate behavior. It's a female, which is easier to do with than a male. But I would punish my dog even if she only defended herself. Definitely don't hit them (can make them scared of hands or the object you use). Just dominate them, and put them on their back. Great their mouth too. They're very mouth oriented dogs.
Train them hard young, and reap the benefits over the next decade. But don't expect to hang out with only family at the house. Put in a little work, and pits actually have been good personalities.

quote:And the kids. Little kids who think dogs are just mobile toys get bit by lots of breeds. It's convenient to blame the dog or the "dog-owner" part of the owner, but parents need to be a good "kid-parent", too, to keep everybody safe and happy.
Dogs don’t just snap and kill kids without reason. If you raise the dog properly it will behave properly.

You will live to regret that decision! Pit Bulls are killers and you never know when they'll turn on you.
Anyway, enjoy.
Anyway, enjoy.
