Just got a text and phone call from the St. Charles Parish Emergency Operations Center. Due to a vehicle accident, I-310 is closed in Luling in both directions. The incident is near the I-310 / LA 3127 junction. Southbound traffic coming over the bridge from Destrehan is being forced off at the River Road exit.

From WDSU.com:
quote:

ST. CHARLES PARISH, La. — The southbound lanes of Interstate 310 are closed Thursday because of an overturned fuel truck that caught fire off the Highway 3127 exit in Luling, officials said.

State police told WDSU that at least one person is dead and several others have been taken to the hospital with injuries.

Troopers said that a tanker truck and dump truck collided shortly before 9 a.m. sparking the blaze.

Rumor is that a tanker truck ran into the back of a dump truck. Tanker truck is on fire but emergency responders can't get close enough to the incident (due to the heat of the fire) to determine if any other vehicles were involved.

ETA: Sheriff's office now saying the incident involved a tanker and 2 other vehicles.

Maybe it would if the incident was on the bridge. This is happening several miles south of the bridge near the I-310 / LA 3127 junction.

Partial hijack, why does the fricking speed limit go to 70 at the TOP of the bridge?

Is it b/c the entire 310 should be 70 but LSP likes the revenue stream from that stretch from 10 to the Boggs?

I believe it jumps up to 70 after the elevated section through the swamp, before the actual bridge. It used to be 70 but they dropped it due to fog on the elevated portion (I believe that was the official reasoning).

Gotcha. Tons of drivers don't realize the elevated section of 10 between Laplace and Gramercy is 70 b/c of the Spillway being 60. They slow the frick down and piss us commuters off.

Mike Foster pushed for 55mph for trucks and 60mph for cars(or something like that) when some bad accident happened over the Basin. I remember that.
