So crime is either down because crime is down or because it is going under reported. I can't think of a third way that the statistics could possibly indicate the downward trend any other way. If it is the latter what is the basis for the angst so many seem to have about crime being rampant? Feelings? Fear? It certainly isn't being a victim of crime because that is so rare as to be nearly insignificant.
On the flip side of that electronic banking alone has had to have some impact on violent crime. no? No one is waiting outside a bank to knock an old lady in the head on the day she cashes her social security check anylonger. Robbing a store in the most crime ridden neighborhood in the US is more likely to produce a sack full of credit card, debit card and EBT receipts than cash...what would be the point? Its not logical to assume crime is actuall up but being systmatically under reported when the fact is a near cashless society has to have had some impact....
